House Finance Committee: Heavy lifting ahead

The majority Democrats in the House decided to spread the fiscal load a little bit this year, dividing committee oversight of revenue and of budgeting (previously combined under the Ways and Means Committee). Rep. Carlyle chairs the newly constituted revenue panel, the Finance Committee.

With the state facing some daunting financial challenges, the committee’s task will not be an easy one, as Crosscut.com said in an article on the outlook for the 2012 legislative session:

Meanwhile, just across the capitol, the House finance committee will meet for the first time to start hunting for — depending on who [sic] you ask — somewhere between two and four billion dollars of extra revenue. Comment has not been forthcoming on whether the committee, headed by House Democrat Reuven Carlyle, has checked under the cushions.
