House Public Safety Committee Chair Roger Goodman’s statement regarding “use of force” bill

“Stakeholders have worked diligently to develop language that meets the needs of all parties. However, further negotiation is necessary to reach consensus on the issue of use of deadly force in community policing. The bill is not subject to the regular committee deadlines because it is tied to the budget. In addition, Sen. David Frockt’s companion bill (SB 5073) is moving through the Senate Law and Justice Committee, providing yet another avenue for this policy issue to advance.

“Committee members and stakeholders remain committed to reaching an accord, and hope to have a revised bill to review later this session. We will use the extra time available to find a path forward on this important issue.”
