Rep. David Sawyer

I look forward to my first term in the state Legislature, starting in January 2013. Representing the interests of my constituents in the 29th Legislative District is a great honor and I am excited to begin. Thank you for giving me the opportunity. I will work to make our state better for middle-class families and children, both now and in the future. Everyone in our state deserves the chance to work hard and succeed, not just a privileged few.

Education is the cornerstone of success for our children. Our public schools and state universities give our children the tools they need to strive for a better life. I will support adequately funding public K-12 education so that success isn’t reserved only for the rich and lucky. That funding is an investment in our future.

I also will support early-learning programs, which are critical to giving all children a fair and equal chance at the start. We need to expand these programs and improve access to them.

Education after high school is even more important in the 21st century. I want to give more middle-class children the chance to earn a college degree, and I want to expand apprenticeship programs for young people eager to learn the skills for productive work.

Our veterans serve as an inspiring example for all of us: They have sacrificed for the greater good to keep us strong and safe. We need to make sure their hard-earned rights are protected.

And, of course, we need a healthy economy to provide jobs to the men and women hoping to build a better life. I will do all I can to increase those opportunities for jobs.
