The state House of Representatives approved HB 2700 sponsored by Rep. Monica Stonier of Vancouver on Tuesday, which creates breast cancer awareness license plates for Washington drivers.

“Washington state ranks in the top 25 percent in cancer diagnosis and is sixth highest for female breast cancer,” said Stonier on the House floor. “Tonight we can take a vote allowing a license plate that will make a big difference in the lives of many Washingtonians.”

The new license plates may feature the pink ribbon – the international symbol for breast cancer awareness.

Proceeds from these license plate sales will go to the Washington State Department of Health for breast, cervical, and colon cancer screening for those who are uninsured, under-insured, disabled, or otherwise do not have access to cancer screening.

The bill passed unanimously in the House and will be sent to the Senate for further consideration.
