Caucus peers elect Moeller Speaker Pro Tempore-designate

Clark County lawmaker resumes

leadership duties in upcoming session

OLYMPIA – Already bound to be demanding enough, the 2011 legislative session just got even more so for state Rep. Jim Moeller.

Moeller was selected House Speaker Pro Tempore-designate today (Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010) by his fellow Democratic Caucus members. He is slated to be officially confirmed as Speaker Pro Tempore by the full House of Representatives on Monday, Jan. 10, which is the opening day of next year’s session.

“It will be an honor to help keep the legislative wheels turning efficiently during our 105-day session,” said Moeller, who has served for several years as Deputy Speaker Pro Tempore. The Vancouver Democrat was re-elected to the Legislature early last month.

“Our Democratic leadership team works with our Republican colleagues to keep the legislative process moving forward, even though we might not always agree.”

The Speaker Pro Tempore presides over sessions of the House, keeping the process as untangled as possible when lawmakers are debating proposals on the floor.

Moeller has a long history of public service and has been an honorary board member of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Southwest Washington, and is the President of the Clark County’s Human Services Council. He has served on the Vancouver City Council, chaired the Southwest Washington Health District Board, and served as a board member of the Association of Washington Cities.

He also serves on the Clark College Addiction Counseling Advisory Committee, and he was a founding member of the Vancouver/Clark County Visitors and Convention Bureau.

Moeller’s 49th Legislative District includes western Vancouver, Hazel Dell and the surrounding neighborhoods of southwestern Clark County.
