Public-health advocate joins peers in promoting citizen well-being

OLYMPIA – Scores of public-health professionals are in the state capital today, spreading and emphasizing the word about their mission in local communities all across Washington.

Sponsored by the Washington State Public Health Association (WSPHA), Public Health Education Day has also included presentation of the 2010 WSPHA President’s Award to a Clark County legislator for whom a stronger system of public health has been a personal and professional career goal.

“I’m very grateful and honored to receive this award from men and women who make public health a No. 1 priority for our citizens, families, and communities,” said state Rep. Jim Moeller. “It’s an extraordinary honor to have one’s name and effort called out for this award recognition.

“Men and women who work in the fields of public health make this a better state for everyone,” said Moeller, who is past president of the Southwest Washington Health District Board.

The 2010 WSPHA President’s Award recognizes the great importance of promoting a holistic approach in achieving and upholding a healthy life.

Public Health Education Day features association members advocating to protect funding for public health and to preserve the ability of local communities to allocate resources to target priority needs.
