OLYMPIA—Last night, just minutes after receiving the bill unanimously approved by the Senate, the House of Representatives passed the $4.18 billion-investment capital budget on a 95-1 vote and immediately sent it to the governor.
SB 6090 invests money to help school districts reduce K-3 class sizes, as well as projects at colleges and universities, community centers, and many other investments across the state in buying, building and repairing infrastructure.
In all, the budget will generate an estimated 75,000 jobs in construction, engineering and natural resources over the next four years.
“This construction budget will help create desperately needed affordable housing, which is a particular problem here in Snohomish County,” said Rep. June Robinson, D-Everett. “And it will build a record $1 billion in new public schools and more than $800 million in new facilities at our colleges and universities.”
“Having finally reached an agreement to pass this budget means immediate jobs in every corner of the state, increasing much needed school capacity, and growing our economy,” said Rep. Mike Sells, D-Everett. “These are the type of investments that bring tangible improvements to our communities and enrich the quality of life for working families in our state.”
The capital budget pays for schools, parks, community centers, clean air and water systems, corrections facilities, hospitals, clinics, housing and higher education facilities, among others.
