Spokane projects funded in proposed House construction budget

OLYMPIA—House Democrats released a supplemental capital budget proposal that would fund higher education, mental health services and community development projects in Spokane.

Those projects include:

  • Spokane County Jail Diversion Facility ($2.4 million)—The City of Spokane, Spokane County and many members of the public strongly advocated for funding to convert a portion of the current County emergency management building on the campus of the Spokane County Jail for the purposes of creating a sixteen-bed mental health and chemical dependency evaluation & treatment facility.
  • New Spokane County Medical Examiner Facility ($1.25 million)—Spokane County provides medical examiner services for six other counties in Eastern Washington. This top priority for our Spokane County Commission will also integrate with and support the medical schools for WSU and UW on the university district campus.
  • Other important local projects include funding for a new roof for the West Central Community Center and development of the South Gorge Trail.

“This budget creates jobs and puts people first,” said Rep. Marcus Riccelli (D-Spokane). “I am glad that as a member of the House Capital Budget Committee I could work to include projects here in Spokane that will serve our families and community for decades to come.”
