Phased reopening in WA: Golf but no haircuts yet
Washington state’s phased reopening gets formally under way Tuesday, May 5 — although it may be June 1 before hair salons and barber shops can operate and eating in a restaurant is possible. As state slowly reopens, dark clouds hover over budget
An ominous new analysis warns the pandemic may deliver a multi-billion-dollar blow to state coffers as Gov. Jay Inslee continued Tuesday to slowly crank up a rebooting of the economy, shoring up of the social service safety net and restoring a degree of normalcy to public life in the coming weeks. The report prepared by the state’s chief economist suggests revenue collections could be down $756 million through the end of June and nearly $3.8 billion by the end of the current budget in mid-2021. Lawsuit Alleges CARES Act Excludes U.S. Citizen Children Of Undocumented Immigrants
U.S. citizen children of undocumented parents who are excluded from the $2 trillion federal stimulus coronavirus package filed a federal class action lawsuit on Tuesday. The lawsuit was filed in the District Court of Maryland by the Institute for Constitutional Advocacy and Protection at Georgetown Law Center along with CASA, a nonprofit immigrant rights organization serving the D.C.-area and Pennsylvania, on behalf of seven children ages ranging from 7-months-old to 9-years-old, and their parents.
