State health experts: Flu vaccine should be considered ‘essential’ this year
State health experts recommend that everyone 6 months and older needs a flu vaccine this fall. The presence of COVID-19 and flu viruses could put more people in the hospital and strain Washington’s health care system, according to a news release Sept. 29 from the state Department of Health. Snohomish County sees another uptick in COVID-19 cases
The number of new COVID cases in Snohomish County rose last week for the first time in two months, according to data from the Snohomish Health District. The jump in new infections per 100,000 people over two weeks — from 41.9 to 46.4 — isn’t steep, but health experts fear it could be the first sign of another surge. Seattle to require minimum wage for Uber, Lyft drivers
Uber and Lyft drivers in Seattle are expected to make the same $16.39 an hour minimum wage as other workers in the city after a vote by city officials supporting new regulations. The Seattle Times reports that the Seattle City Council unanimously voted Tuesday a pay formula requiring ride-hailing companies to boost pay for drivers to account for expenses and the time drivers spend in transition from one ride to the next and while waiting for passengers.
