When it came to new police accountability measures enacted in Washington state this year, the focus was on people killed closer to home. Of the dozen police accountability bills that Gov. Washington state is on track to fully reopen its economy by June 30. The state has been under some form of pandemic-related restriction since mid-March of 2020. The plan to return to business (mostly) as usual follows surprise guidance from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention earlier this month, saying fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear masks. How a new law requiring the recording of interrogations could prevent wrongful convictions
Beginning next year in Washington state, if you choose to talk to law enforcement while in police custody, that conversation must be recorded on video and audio. It’s never before been required. That new requirement was passed by the state legislature this year, and recently signed into law by Gov. Jay Inslee.
