New options for public to engage remotely with Legislature worked
While this fully remote session had its share of frustrating moments, the greater than average degree of remote public engagement in the legislative process was a step in the right direction. Full remote testimony along with the ability to send written testimony and sign on as for or against bills without having to travel to Olympia was a clear win for citizens. Economic recovery could take years for women who lost jobs during pandemic — even with Biden’s plans
Women who lost their jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic could be waiting until 2023 to work again, experts warn, even if economic initiatives President Joe Biden has proposed become law. It could take more than two years for women’s employment to return to pre-pandemic levels because the industries women worked in were hit the hardest, according to the National Women’s Law Center, an organization that publishes monthly reports on how the pandemic is affecting women’s employment. Opioid treatment meds could be used more effectively in Washington, researchers say
University of Washington School of Medicine research shows a drug to treat opioid addiction isn’t being used as effectively as it could be. Caleb Banta-Green, addictions specialist at the school and author of the study, looked at around 25,000 buprenorphine prescriptions in Washington between 2014 and 2017. He found that, on average, patients only stayed on the medication for 84 days. But he said long-term use of the addiction treatment medication, longer than six months, is necessary for patients to stay in recovery. Continue reading at KNKX. (UW Medicine)
