House Passes Rep. Gregerson’s Bill to Expand Digital Equity

OLYMPIA – Yesterday, the House of Representatives passed House Bill 1503, sponsored by Rep. Mia Gregerson (D-SeaTac), to expand digital equity by increasing access to internet services, devices, and digital literacy training. The bill shifts key responsibilities to the Office of Equity, ensuring stronger oversight and implementation of the state’s Digital Equity Plan.

“Broadband access is an equity issue—essential for education, healthcare, economic opportunity, and democracy,” said Rep. Gregerson. “This bill is a smart investment that aligns with the real needs of our communities.”

Washington aims to close the digital divide through systemic infrastructure improvements, public-private partnerships, and expanded digital literacy programs. With a focus on affordability, accessibility, and innovation, HB 1503 ensures that all Washingtonians—students, veterans, incarcerated individuals, and marginalized communities—have the tools needed to thrive in an increasingly digital world.

HB 1503 awaits further consideration in the Senate. Click here or on the image below to learn more:
