Speaker Frank Chopp issued the following statement on Governor Inslee’s budget and revenue proposal:
“Governor Inslee made a strong commitment to education in his proposal – one that we agree with. And he did so without sacrificing vital state services for children, seniors and the disabled. Through expansion of Medicaid and implementation of the Affordable Care Act, thousands more Washingtonians will be covered by health insurance and the state will save money.
“Taking meaningful steps toward better-funding of our public schools is a top priority, and many of our members have long argued for giving tax breaks serious scrutiny. So we are heartened to see the governor call for closing some tax loopholes to fund the education of our kids.”
