Come get your fresh, ripe strawberries and squash!

ID-10024369We Washingtonians are incredibly lucky.  Summertime here yields blue skies, warm temperatures and more fresh produce than we can possibly eat! One of the most popular ways to find the freshest produce across our state is to visit your local Farmer’s Market.

In light of the important economic and contribution farmers markets make to our state and our appreciation for the bounty they bring to our communities, Governor Inslee has declared August 4th-11th Washington Farmer’s Market Week.

Farmers markets support our local economies, job creation and community health.  They  provide access to fresh, healthy food for all Washington residents – participating in SNAP as well as donating to food banks.

Some farmers markets in our state are trying to encourage healthy eating habits, by providing an incentive to low-income individuals who use their food assistance to buy produce.

So, if you don’t already, visit a farmers market in your area today.   Not only can you find great food to eat but artwork, jewelry, housewares and much more.  Plus, you can feel great about supporting Washington businesses!
