Doing things better, faster, and cheaper

Dear neighbors,

It’s the honor of a lifetime to serve as your representative—thank you.

These e-newsletters are a quick way for me to update you on what’s happening and why it matters back home in the 24th.

They’re also a chance to listen to you. I don’t have all the answers, and every time I hear from folks back home, I learn something.

State of the State

Each year, the Governor addresses a joint session of the House and Senate—and all the people of Washington state.

Our new Governor, Bob Ferguson, gave his first State of the State Thursday, which you can read the text of here.

I found his focus on government efficiency, public safety, and affordable housing refreshing. We should speed up permit delivery and remove bureaucracy which unnecessarily slows the construction of new housing. I look forward to working with the new administration.

Childcare, natural resources, and the budget

I’ve heard over and over again that childcare is a priority in our district. I am looking forward to advocating for those services on the Early Learning and Human Services Committee.

I’m also excited to serve on the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committeeone of the most bipartisan committees in Olympia. Stewardship of our natural resources and support for our farmers and fisherman matter to Democrats and Republicans alike.

We face a significant budgetary challenge this year. As a newly appointed Vice Chair of the Transportation Committee, I’ve joined the team which is working on solutions for the shortfall in our Transportation Budget.

How you can participate in your democracy

It’s easier than ever to see what’s happening in the state House of Representatives and to share your thoughts.

  • You can watch any committee hearing or floor debate on tvw.org, either live or after the event.
  • To share your story, you can testify live in committees or sign up to testify remotely.
  • And you can reach your lawmakers by email, regular mail, or the toll-free Hotline.
