Dear neighbors,
It’s an honor and a privilege to serve as your representative.
Here’s a quick snapshot of some of the things I’ve been working on for the 24th District.
Mobile markets (House Bill 1388)
Mobile markets are vehicles with refrigeration used to boost farm sales in areas without access to fresh fruits and vegetables. Exactly what we want for folks receiving benefits from Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) nutrition program.
Yet our state law doesn’t allow for that. My legislation fixes that problem and opens up access, which will help families and farmers alike.
Wildfires (House Bill 1563)
Forest fires do serious damage—to homes, local businesses, and footing the bill to extinguish the flames and rebuild. One solution is prescribed burns to remove dead vegetation that fuels fires. My legislation funds a pilot program to provide loss coverage for prescribed burns. This reduces the uncertainty, making this time-tested tool for fire prevention more accessible.
Early learning (House Bill 1351)
Our state-funded version of Head Start is called the Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program, which sometimes has open slots that kids can’t use because they miss the age cutoff. This means they have to wait another year.
My legislation fixes this problem and allows these children to get in the classroom when there’s an otherwise open slot. This helps kids who’d benefit from early learning, which we know helps kids succeed in school and in life.
Working with lawmakers from both parties
I’m also co-sponsoring legislation on a number of fronts, working with Democrats and Republicans to tackle problems:
- Accessory dwelling units, also known as mother-in-law houses, in rural areas (House Bill 1010)
- Expanding access to diaper changing stations (House Bill 1562)
- Boosting contraceptive coverage in health plans (House Bill 1090) and dealing with IUD removal and pain control (House Bill 1077)
- Providing incentives to improve freight railroad infrastructure (House Bill 1058)
