MEDIA AVAILABILITY & FORECLOSURE SUMMIT, THU, JAN 13 at 11:45 AM

OLYMPIA – Members of the media are invited to attend a brief media availability fifteen minutes before the start of the LEGISLATIVE SUMMIT ON FORECLOSURE SOLUTIONS this Thursday to hear about the foreclosure mediation bills introduced this session by Rep. Tina Orwall and Sen. Adam Kline.

The summit, organized by the Washington law Income Housing Alliance and the Statewide Poverty Action Network, will cover the foreclosure process in Washington state,  foreclosure trends, and emerging strategies from around the country to prevent foreclosure.

Some Washington state foreclosure facts

  • Over 132,000 mortgages will be foreclosed between 2009 and 2012.
  • In 2009 alone, more than 30,000 families lost their homes to foreclosure.
  • By the end of 2010 about 77,000 families had lost their homes.
  • More than 115,000 families are past due on their mortgages.
  • Between 2009 and 2012, 2,104,655 homes will experience a foreclosure-related decline in value totaling $19.5 billion in lost home equity—that’s $9,259 per home in the state.
