OLYMPIA – We are at the start of the 2011 Legislative Session, and Rep. Eric Pettigrew (D-Seattle) invites young adults to apply for the House Page Program.
“Taking part in the page program is a great opportunity for young people to gain a unique perspective of the legislative process,” Pettigrew said.
Pages have been a part of the Washington Legislature since 1891. They have the unique opportunity to help with a wide range of responsibilities, including distributing amendments, assisting with ceremonial tasks such as presenting the flags and more.
Each page must be sponsored by a member of the Legislature, usually from the district in which they live, to work one week in Olympia while earning a small stipend. In order to become a page, students must be ages 14 to 16, have permission from a parent or guardian, and permission from school.
