OLYMPIA – House lawmakers from every corner of the state joined to honor and celebrate young people in Washington during Children’s Day at the Capitol last Monday.
Many invited their own children, grandchildren and other young people in their lives to partake in the celebration and to be recognized on the House floor.
Rep. Marcie Maxwell (D-Renton) invited Kira Kusumi, a resident of the 41st District, to share this special day with her.
“The young people in our lives today will be tomorrow’s leaders and decision makers,” Maxwell said. “We must encourage our children to achieve their hopes and dreams by recognizing and reminding them of their capabilities, and providing them with a quality education.”
While Kira experienced a behind-the-scenes view of the Capitol, her father also journeyed to Olympia to join the Washington State PTA Focus Day rally on the Capitol steps where Rep. Maxwell took time to speak to hundreds of parents and teachers.
