OLYMPIA – Building contractors confused by the appeals process at the state Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) will see a marked improvement at the agency thanks to a bill sponsored by Rep. Zack Hudgins (D – Tukwila).
It’s an effort by Hudgins in keeping with his mantra to improve government responsiveness and efficiency. “This bill simply gives businesses more time to file an appeal with L&I for any infraction, increasing the time from 20 to 30 days,” said Hudgins. “We’re listening to business owners, helping them reduce the time and money it takes to fully comply with the law.”
House bill 1055 was part of a “good governance” package Hudgins introduced this year, modernizing the rules and regulations at L&I. The measure passed both the House and Senate unanimously, and now moves to the Governor’s desk for final approval.
