On January 14th, Representative Roger Freeman took the oath of office and was officially sworn in to serve the citizens of the 30th legislative district in the Washington State Legislature.
“I am excited to represent the people of the 30th Legislative District and be their advocate in Olympia. I am grateful to have so many people supporting me on this journey,” said Freeman.
During their reorganization in late 2012, the House Democratic Caucus selected Freeman to serve as the Vice Chair of the Early Learning and Human Health Services Committee. The committee oversees legislation relating to early learning from birth to kindergarten, as well as a broad array of issues affecting children and families, including foster care, child protective services, child welfare services, children’s mental health, family support programs, at risk-youth programs and youth violence prevention.
Freeman will also serve as a member of the Transportation Committee and the Technology & Economic Development Committee.
Freeman’s top priorities for the 2013 legislative session are:
- Protecting Washington’s most vulnerable citizens by fully funding DSHS and reforming laws around school truancy, Child Protective Services and non-violent offenders
- Ensuring that the Legislature complies with the Washington Supreme Court’s ruling in the McCleary case to fully fund K-12 education
- Empowering and expanding STEM education in the K-12 system to encourage more kids to become engineers, programmers, and scientists
- Creating an economic climate that encourages startup company growth and retention
