This morning, Governor Inslee held a press conference and shared some hard truths about the reality of budget negotiations. It’s time for all sides to set aside their policy wish lists and ideology, and move towards a budget compromise that fulfills our paramount duty.
Passing the same budget as before is not compromise.
Governor Inslee:
Here’s what is clear to me today: The Senate majority is trying to leverage our obligation to Washington’s school children to pass its ideological agenda. We have the time to avoid having to close government offices July 1… Going forward I urge lawmakers to keep ideology and policy wish lists out of this debate.
We couldn’t agree more. In fact, we’ve made $814 million in concessions and have set aside our own wish list of policy bills in order to move our state forward. That’s what the people want us to do.
The complete press conference should be available shortly over at TVW.
