Representative Steve Tharinger (D-Dungeness) has offered the following statement regarding his appointment as co-chair of the Joint Legislative Committee on Aging and Disability:
“Washingtonians are living longer, healthier and more independent lifestyles than ever before. This is great news – but it also presents us with a unique set of challenges. Last session, we created the Joint Legislative Committee on Aging and Disability to come up with a plan of action to meet the long-term needs of a population that grows older every day.
Nearly 30 percent of the district I represent in Olympia is over the age of 65. There are few issues that I take more seriously than ensuring that our family members and friends can grow old with the dignity they deserve. I am both honored and excited to lead a committed team of professionals to address the long-term care, health care, transportation and housing issues facing us in the months and years ahead.”
