A healthy office means healthy workers

When people are healthier, everybody wins. Their quality of life improves, they’re more productive at work, happier at home, and health costs and sick leave costs go down. healthy officeGov. Jay Inslee recently issued Executive Order 13-6, something that could make a big difference in the health of state workers—and serve as a model for all 7 million citizens in Washington state.

The resolution recognizes that most health care costs today are the result of chronic condition such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease and stroke.

Those conditions are all largely preventable.

The governor’s executive order is based on legislation by Rep. Laurie Jinkins and will get state agencies working together to reduce smoking rates, prevent diabetes, give workers more healthy eating options while at work and track these efforts with metrics to see what’s working and what’s not.
