The weather outside is frightful.
So where can you find the best information about whether it’s best to hop in your car and risk freezing rain or drive across the mountains?
The TV weather folks are a good start, but they get a lot of their information from a source that you have the same access to: the Washington State Department of Transportation.
WSDOT keeps an eye, literally, on all of these things. There are all kinds of cameras hooked up to the Series of Tubes which will give you a live shot of I-5, I-90 and other key highways.
There’s another state map and dedicated web page for travel alerts, including traffic accidents and construction delays.
Finally, there’s a great look at state weather conditions and a handy map of mountain passes, just in case you’re going over a hill to Grandmother’s house for Christmas.
