Today, all eyes – well, OK, some eyes – turn to the 147 Washington state legislators as they convene in Olympia for the 2014 session. But it so happens that one of those legislators is particularly worthy of attention, not only among the 147 but among the thousands of representatives and senators in legislators across the nation.
That legislator is Rep. Cyrus Habib of Kirkland, or so says Governing magazine, which has named Habib one of “12 State Legislators to Watch in 2014.” The magazine notes that Habib, first elected to the House in 2012 and “believed to be the country’s first and only Iranian-American state legislator,” has overcome blindness from a childhood disease to achieve educational, professional and legislative success.
