Yesterday, in a room full of youths’ smiles and energy, Rep. Ruth Kagi accepted an award from the YMCA as their Legislative Champion. The award was presented by Bob Gilbertson, President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Seattle.
The mission of the YMCA is, building a community where all people, especially the young, are encouraged to develop their fullest potential in spirit, mind and body.
When presenting the award Gilbertson said that Rep. Kagi has been a champion for children and families in the legislature. Gilbertson spoke of her passion, practicality and perseverance. “Even in the face of tough times, Ruth fights hard to build strong, safe, communities for our children and families.”
Rep. Kagi has served the 32nd legislative district in Olympia for 15 years, focusing on improving the quality of early learning and child care and strengthening foster care.
Kagi credited the YMCA, telling them the legislature would not have accomplished nearly as much over the last several years were it not for the support of great organizations like them. She also mentioned the need for smart, dedicated public servants, and encouraged all the children in the room to run for office.
Keep up the great work, Rep. Kagi!
