Is the state holding your unclaimed property?

Many of us have annual checklists. Check our credit reports. Go see the eye doctor. Do a home inventory, after spring cleaning of course.

Checking to see if the state is holding on to your unclaimed property should be added to that annual to-do list.

ClaimYourCash.org is a free unclaimed property service operated by the Washington State Department of Revenue.

When a company owes you money, like an insurance premium refund or utility deposit, they have to give it to you. In some cases, you may be hard to find because you moved or there was a data entry error with your information.

If a company can’t find you after a few years, they are required to turn your property over to the state.

In 2013, the state received over $138 million in unclaimed property. Over $1 billion has been turned over to the state since the program started in 1955.

Are you on the list? You can check here to see if the state is holding your refund.
