The Milbank Memorial Fund and the Reforming State Group have selected Representative June Robinson to participate in the 2015 Emerging Leaders Program. The program helps legislators gain skills and policy tools that are essential to advocating for healthy communities.
Participants from a wide variety of backgrounds are accepted in to this program, including legislators and executive branch officials with experience in medicine, law, and finance. Rep. Robinson will represent Washington as a legislator and bring her experience working in public health to the program. Participants from across the country and political spectrum will work together toward the shared goal of improving the health of their communities.
Over the course of three days, participants will learn the how and why of effective community health policies. They will learn effective strategies for leadership and advocacy; gain a greater understanding of how to use evidence and research-based information to inform policy making; and discuss the role that education, income and the environment play in creating healthy populations.
“I am excited to take part in this program and meet legislators from around the country who are working on similar issues,” said Robinson. “I know that I will return from the Emerging Leaders Program with a good foundation for improving health outcomes right here in Washington state.”
