Today, February 27, we passed HB 1153 off the House floor in a 92-4 vote. I was proud to vote in favor of this important legislation, which puts in place additional protections for vulnerable adults.
We must do all we can to safeguard vulnerable adults from physical and financial abuse. Along with increased sentencing and tools for prosecuting these crimes, HB 1153 also encourages counties to develop protocol for handling cases of this nature and supporting advocacy teams.
This strong, bipartisan bill now moves to the Senate, where I hope it will be heard in committee and brought to the floor for a vote.
