Federal Way Lawmaker Pushes for Public Safety Improvements

OLYMPIA – The House of Representatives passed a Capital Budget last week that will spend millions in Federal Way, from infrastructure improvements to public safety investments. Rep. Mike Pellicciotti (D-Federal Way), a former prosecutor for South King County, pushed for the Safe City Camera Replacement and Expansion program. The state will dedicate $250,000 to Federal Way Safe City to replace outdated TV cameras at crime hot spots and help law enforcement intercept crime in Federal Way.

“I want to make sure the state recognizes our needs in Federal Way,” said Pellicciotti. “With the amount of crime we have seen, it’s imperative that our local police have the resources to intercept those committing crimes and bring them to justice.”

One of the shootings in recent weeks occurred at an intersection that would receive a new camera under this Safe City replacement plan.

The final Capital Budget is currently being negotiated by budget leaders in the House and Senate.
