On a chilly Wednesday afternoon, dozens of people stood outside in the cold, waiting in a slow moving line to receive their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. The Washington State House of Representatives passed a bill Wednesday that would waive some graduation requirements for individual students during a state of emergency – an effort to help some students who may have struggled during the last year of online learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic. More help for WA undocumented community could be on the way
If approved next month, the additional $70 million would make Washington state a nationwide leader in help offered to the undocumented community, which has been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic, Latino and Black people in particular. Last year, California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced an unprecedented $125 million in aid for undocumented workers. Washington state is poised to match or exceed that amount.
