Governor will require state employees to get COVID vaccine
Gov. Jay Inslee opened a new front in the battle against the deadly coronavirus Monday, ordering state employees and private health care workers to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by mid-October — or they could lose their jobs. Under the mandate, roughly 60,000 workers of the 24 state agencies under Inslee’s control — such as the departments of Corrections, Transportation, and Social and Health Services — must show proof of vaccination by Oct. 18 as a condition of employment. Over 30% of Washington nursing home staff still unvaccinated
Washington state’s COVID-19 vaccination mandate for most state employees and health care workers will have a large impact on the state’s long-term care facilities and nursing homes, where vaccinations rates are between 60 and 70 percent. “It’s a blunt message, but it’s one that’s needed,” said Robin Dale, president of the Washington Health Care Association (WHCA).
