OLYMPIA – Rep. Timm Ormsby (D-Spokane). Chair of the House Appropriations Committee, shared the following statement after the release of Governor Jay Inslee’s final operating budget proposal:
“Thank you to Governor Inslee for the providing the legislature with this spending proposal. I look forward to reviewing it more in the coming weeks as House Democrats consider our priorities
“This is a challenging budget year because of the drop in revenue growth, cost of inflation, and increased needs of people and families in our state. But it is our job to address the problems facing Washingtonians and see where we can help. We will work to protect the investments we have made in working families, I am confident that House Democrats will find a way to meet the needs of the people while presenting a balanced budget.
“The budget mostly funds core government functions that we absolutely must do, either because of the constitution or federal requirements. An all-cuts budget reduces critical funding for those who need the most help and hurts real people. Instead, we must balance our budget through careful review of what is funded in the budget, how revenue is raised, and who feels the impact of any potential changes. The people and families of Washington are our top priority, and their needs are what we will address.
