OLYMPIA – No worker should have to choose between their paycheck and their family’s future. With the passage of House Bill 1875 by the House of Representatives today, employees could soon be able to use their sick leave for absences related to judicial or administrative immigration proceedings, including those for family members. This change ensures workers no longer have to risk losing income or their job to attend crucial immigration hearings.
Rep. Osman Salahuddin (D-Redmond), the bill’s prime sponsor, stated, “By allowing workers to use their earned sick leave for immigration-related matters, we increase equity and access to the legal system. This bill is also about protecting workers from retaliation, safeguarding their rights, and promoting economic stability for immigrant families.”
House Bill 1875 is now awaiting further consideration in the Senate. To learn more, click here or on the image below.
