OLYMPIA—Today, the Washington State Legislature passed a landmark 15.2 billion dollar transportation budget for 2025–27.
Together, these measures ensure that Washington communities can count on safer roads, stronger transit systems, cleaner transportation options, and critical investments in local projects.
“This isn’t just about highways or buses—it’s about connecting people to jobs, schools, services, and each other as one Washington,” said Rep. Jake Fey, Chair of the House Transportation Committee. “To do that well, we need a budget that meets today’s needs and a funding system that supports tomorrow’s.”
Transportation Budget: $15.2 Billion for 2025–27
The budget appropriates funding for construction, preservation, operations, and multimodal projects statewide. It includes support for the Washington State Patrol, the Department of Licensing, and the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) for projects like:
- Safety improvements on SR 18,
- Continuation of the North Spokane Corridor (NSC) freeway,
- The Gateway Project, and the preservation and maintenance of state highways.
The budget also maintains our commitment to repairing fish passage barriers, enforces our commitment to lowering carbon emissions, and restores funding for several priority programs in the 2023–25 biennium.
“We’ve made the investments. Now we’re taking the necessary steps to pay for them—and protect them—for the long haul,” said Rep. Fey. “Washingtonians deserve a transportation system that works and lasts.”
The House and Senate budget teams will negotiate a final budget that will go to the Governor’s office for signature following Sine Die (scheduled for April 27).
