28th LD Update: The 2024 Legislative Session is Underway, Our Pre-Session Town Hall + How to Get Involved

Dear friends and neighbors,  

Thank you to all of you who came out to our joint town hall in Fircrest last week! University Place Councilmember Steve Worthington and Fircrest Councilmember Hunter George served as moderators for the event, where discussion topics included opioid and fentanyl, education, public safety, housing, local authority, education, and more. It was a lively conversation, and we’re glad you took part. We also thank those of you who submitted questions in advance, as well as those of you who took part in a survey sent out before session to ask you about your top concerns. We are listening and we care. 

In case you’re curious, the top two items that came up in the survey were community safety and behavioral health, following by housingFull survey results are depicted in the graph below.


The 2024 Legislative Session is Underway!

As of today, we are back in session. This is a short session year lasting just 60 days, with our work here wrapping up on March 7. We’re both excited to be back in Olympia, working side by side with our legislative colleagues.  


How to Participate in the 2024 Session

We hope you’ll follow along and join the journey with us. Here are some ways to do so: 

  • Watch — TVW.org broadcasts all debates and votes that happen in the House or Senate, as well as all committee meetings in both chambers. 
  • Testify — Go here for an overview of the process, here for instructions on how to testify remotely, and here to sign in for hearings in the House or Senate. 
  • Research —Look up any bill by number, lawmaker, or topic here. To learn about the entire legislative process, click here.
