Dear friends and neighbors,
January 9th marked the beginning of the 2023 legislative session, and I am honored to return to the Washington State Legislature as one of your 22nd Legislative District representatives. This session, I look forward to seeing many of you, both virtually and in person (YAY!) to hear about your legislative priorities for our community, district, and state.
My goals and committees
I have been appointed Chair of the House Environment and Energy Committee. Over the past few years, the legislature has put the policy framework in place to move us to 100% clean energy. I am eager and steadfastly committed to turning this vision into a reality. It is indeed the greatest challenge of our generation.
The Environment and Energy Committee has already heard an important bill that will create a state-of-the art recycling system that also transitions the financial responsibility to producers. We have heard bills that will streamline the siting of clean energy projects and the necessary transmission system to deploy them. We are also working to make sure cosmetic products don’t contain toxic chemicals while reducing single use plastics like those small hotel hair products.
Alongside my work in environmental policy, I will also serve on the Labor and Workplace Standards and Transportation Committees. These committees position me to continue advocating for a well-equipped workforce with good pay and benefits, safe working conditions, and unionized shops. Thurston County and the state as a whole have significant transportation challenges ahead. I will be a strong voice for transit, transportation electrification, sustainable project funding and creative solutions.
In addition to my focus on learning the ropes of being a Chair and moving innovative, thoughtful, protective environmental bills out of committee, my legislative priorities also include continued work in housing, worker protection, reduction of workforce gaps, protection of reproductive healthcare, gun responsibility, police accountability, childcare, and LGBTQ community support.
Here’s how to share your legislative priorities this session:
