While most new laws in Washington go into effect during the summer, some go into effect with the beginning of the new year. Starting tomorrow, the Department of Licensing will be issuing two new license plates for local sports fans to enjoy.
The Seattle Seahawks and the Sounders FC will have new plates available for purchase beginning on January 2nd.
The license plates will carry very recognizable symbols for each team – the 12th Man flag for the Seahawks and the team scarf for the Sounders FC.
For added incentive (not that Seahawks and Sounders FC fans have ever been shy about showing their rabid support for their teams), all proceeds for the new plates will go to local youth charities, InvestEd and Washington State Mentors.
The excitement is so high for some that the Pierce County Auditor Julie Anderson is opening her office early on Thursday. She issued a statement saying:
We just couldn’t resist opening the office a little earlier. We didn’t want our regular customers to be caught up in a crush of football fans. And our staff is equally excited. No one is earning overtime for the morning, but I’m letting everyone get decked out in their Seahawks attire.
Happy New Year!
