House Speaker Frank Chopp statement re DOL’s information release to ICE

“I’m troubled by the news that the Department of Licensing shares certain information about our state residents with federal immigration enforcement. I’m also upset that this information release has resulted in the arrest and detainment of hard-working, law-abiding community members.

“The governor, the attorney general and legislative leaders have made our positions very clear on this matter. The state should not volunteer information unless absolutely required by law, including a person’s resident status.

“House Democrats are requesting a thorough investigation by the governor’s office regarding DOL’s activities and data-sharing requirements as soon as possible.”
