What: House Public Safety Committee work session exploring hate crimes and responses in the states

Why: In light of the national increase in hate crimes and the recent incidents in Washington state, such as the shooting of a Sikh man in Kent and the vandalism and threats against synagogues and mosques, the committee will host a work session to discuss hate crimes and trends in hate crime legislation. Representatives of the National Conference of State Legislatures and the Anti-Defamation League will present information on the history of hate crime legislation, hate crime statistics and recently proposed legislation.
