Why: Members of the community and law enforcement organizations, as well as representatives of the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Academy will give testimony on the proposed House Bill 1064, which includes language to clarify and strengthen Initiative 940. Initiative 940, which updates Washington state’s law on the use of deadly force in community policing, was passed in November by a vote of the people. The language in House Bill 1064 includes changes to the initiative as negotiated by stakeholders, including community advocates and law enforcement representatives.
