LEGISLATIVE NEWS: Goodman named Legislator of the Year by Washington Council of Police and Sheriffs

OLYMPIA – – Rep. Roger Goodman (D-Kirkland), an attorney and criminal justice expert, was named Legislator of the Year by the Washington Council of Police and Sheriffs (WACOPS) at its annual Award Luncheon on Monday, February 10.

WACOPS is the oldest and largest organization representing rank and file police professionals in the state. As the Chair of the House Public Safety Committee, Rep. Goodman works with WACOPS on a regular basis.

“Together we have worked through some of the most significant public safety policy issues of our time,” said WACOPS Executive Director Teresa Taylor. “Washington made local history and with your leadership set a tone for the nation.”

Rep. Goodman’s work crafting a compromise to Initiative 940, related to police use of deadly force, was supported by the initiative petitioners, community members, and WACOPS is an achievement that showcases the power of dialogue and inclusion.

WACOPS also mentioned Rep. Goodman’s support of bills which provided PTSD protections, occupational disease presumptions, and benefit improvements for Washington law enforcement.
