MEDIA ADVISORY: Press conference and public hearing on legislation to expand eligibility for the College Bound scholarship to undocumented students (HB 1488)

Who:     Rep. Drew Hansen, D-Bainbridge Island, Chair of the House Higher Education Committee

What:   Press conference on House Bill 1488 (Washington Dream Act 2.0), which protects undocumented students from losing financial aid eligibility if DACA is eliminated

When:  Wednesday, January 10, at 1:00 p.m.

Where: House Hearing Room D, John L. O’Brien Building

Why:  House Bill 1488, sponsored by Rep. Hansen, would make several changes to state law to protect financial aid eligibility for undocumented students, including protecting DACA students from losing College Bound state financial aid if the DACA program is eliminated at the federal level. Joining Rep. Hansen at the press conference will be an undocumented student who will share her story, and Michael Schutzler, CEO of the Washington Technology Industry Association, who will speak about the importance of this bill for businesses in Washington. Brief remarks and a Q&A period for members of the media will be followed by the public hearing on HB 1488.
