Welcome to the 2024 Legislative Session!

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

The Legislature kicks off a new session on Monday and I am excited to return to Olympia and prioritize issues important to our district: Housing, reproductive and behavioral health, climate action, gun safety, and expanding access to care for everyone in our community.

I’m going to build off our successful 2023 session, ensuring access to affordable health care, supporting and strengthening our workforce, and stabilizing rents and prioritizing housing accessibility. I shared our past successes in our 2023 district mailer, sent out last month along with messages from Sen. Pedersen and Rep. Chopp. You can read that by clicking below.

I encourage you to participate in the legislative process. Below you will find some tips on how you can share your priorities and perspectives on policies legislators will be considering this session.

Thanks for taking the time to read this update! I am humbled by the honor and responsibility of representing my neighbors in the 43rd District in the State House. I look forward to hearing from you.

Share your stories and ideas and follow along with the legislative session

In this short, 60-day session, I want to hear from you and share your stories with my fellow lawmakers. Getting involved with the Legislature is easier than ever. Whether you’re coming to Olympia to meet with legislators or to testify or meeting remotely and submitting written testimony as part of the official record, you can be as involved as you want and at your comfort level.

A graphic explaining ways to interact with the legislature including meetings in person or virtually, submitting written testimony, appearing in committee to testify remotely, watching official House action on TVW.org, and emailing or calling lawmakers. It also includes the text "visit app.leg.wa.gov/csi to learn more about testifying"

WatchTVW.org broadcasts all debates and votes that happen in the House or Senate, as well as all committee meetings in both chambers.

TestifyGo here for an overview of the process, here for instructions on how to testify remotely, and here to sign in for hearings in the House or Senate.

Research — Look up any bill by number, lawmaker, or topic here. To learn about the entire legislative process, click here. You can search for the daily agenda for each committee here. Just select the committee you’re interested in, and you can find out which members are assigned to that committee, review upcoming agendas and documents, as well as past reports and hearings.

Stay Informed — Visit my website and sign up for the Hot Sheet, a weekly guide to what the House Democratic Caucus is working on in Olympia. The Hot Sheet compiles many of the legislative priorities scheduled for a hearing or a vote on each day, so it’s a great snapshot of what is happening each week.

I serve as Vice Chair of the House Appropriations Committee and a member of the House Health Care and Wellness Committee, and am looking forward to hearing testimony this week on the Governor’s proposed operating budget and a number of important policy bills. I also serve as co-chair of the bicameral LGBTQ Legislative Caucus.
