Washington’s $40 million COVID-19 relief fund for immigrants is open for applications
Washington immigrants who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and shut out of federal relief or state unemployment benefits can now apply for a one-time payment of $1,000, or up to $3,000 per household, through a $40 million dollar relief fund from the state. Gov. Jay Inslee announced the allocation of $24 million in Coronavirus Relief Funds to purchase approximately 64,000 computing devices for students across the state. Gov. Jay Inslee announced Wednesday, Oct. 21 the Washington COVID-19 Immigrant Relief Fund is now open for applications. The relief fund will provide $40 million in federal funds allocated by the state to assist Washington workers who miss work due to COVID-19, but are unable to access federal stimulus programs and other social supports due to their immigration status, according to a governor’s office news release. Women are leaving the workforce in droves since the pandemic kicked in. 865,000 women exited work in September alone. Just 216,000 men quit the workforce in the same month. How did Americans spend their $1,200 stimulus checks? Here’s what a survey found
A recent survey found that the majority of Americans saved their stimulus payments or used it to repay debts. The CARES Act went into law in March and provided most Americans with direct payments during the coronavirus pandemic. Individuals earning up to $99,000 got $1,200, and joint filers earning up to $198,000 received $2,400, plus $500 for dependents under the age of 17. Continue reading at The Bellingham Herald. They also knew flu season would bring another round of complications as health professionals worked to tell the viruses apart.
