The Covid recession is a women’s recession
Women are leaving the workforce in droves since the pandemic kicked in. 865,000 women exited work in September alone. Just 216,000 men quit the workforce in the same month. But with schools across Seattle closed because of Covid, women are picking up the extra slack at home. Continue reading at KUOW.
How did Americans spend their $1,200 stimulus checks? Here’s what a survey found
A recent survey found that the majority of Americans saved their stimulus payments or used it to repay debts. The CARES Act went into law in March and provided most Americans with direct payments during the coronavirus pandemic. Individuals earning up to $99,000 got $1,200, and joint filers earning up to $198,000 received $2,400, plus $500 for dependents under the age of 17. Continue reading at The Bellingham Herald. But they say COVID-19 fatigue is the most concerning and that people are relaxing the precautions they take and allowing COVID to spread. Continue reading at KIRO7 TV.

Washington Health Department says COVID-19 cases are beginning to plateau
The rise in COVID-19 cases is flattening in most Washington state counties, but we need to stay cautious, the state Department of Health said Friday. “While this is encouraging news and a sign of our collective efforts, we must not let our guard down,” Secretary of Health John Wiesman said in a press release. “Plateauing is not enough to keep this pandemic under control; we must transition to a state of sustained decline in new cases.” Continue reading at The Bellingham Herald. That’s because, even with the most caring nurse, “you’re kind of treated like a piece of evidence,” said Megan Lorincz, the only Washington nurse east of Wenatchee who has gone through the 300-hour certification to give sexual assault exams, she said. While all nurses are trained in evidence collection, the first experiences after a sexual assault require special understanding, Lorincz said. Continue reading at The Spokesman-Review.

Washington Supreme Court Unanimously Strikes Down I-976, Tim Eyman’s $30 Car Tab Initiative
For the third time in state history, a measure promising to cut car-tab taxes to $30 a year has been blocked by Washington state courts. Pain is the body’s honest indicator that something is wrong. That we are still screaming in agony tells society how ineffective most treatments have been. Continue reading at Crosscut. (Matt M. Twitter to pay $100,000 over campaign finance violations
Twitter is the latest social media giant to pay for violations of Washington state’s campaign finance disclosure rules. The decision was not a total loss for plaintiffs in a lawsuit challenging the administration’s decision to end the count early. They managed to get nearly two extra weeks of counting people as the case made its way through the courts. Continue reading at The Bellingham Herald.
