Inslee directs Washington state health board to ban flavored vape products
Gov. Jay Inslee directed state officials Friday to impose an emergency ban on flavored vaping products, one of several measures he announced in response to the mysterious, sometimes fatal lung illness linked to e-cigarettes that have rippled across the nation. Read more in the Seattle Times

Lunch is a timed sport for Mallory Banfield. The fifth-grader at Mukilteo Elementary School packs a lunchbox with food that is quick and easy to eat to give her a competitive edge. Free entrance at national parks, forests and trails Saturday
Head outside Saturday as a vast number of trails, parks and forests will be free of charge. The National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will all waive entrance and parking fees for the 2019 event Saturday, Sept. 28. Preventing mass shootings will take money for school behavioral health support, lawmaker says
A state lawmaker from Olympia on Monday called on the Legislature in 2020 to revise the state budget to provide more funding for school safety and mental health support for students. Democratic state Rep. Laurie Dolan was the lead sponsor this year of a bill, which Gov. Jay Inslee signed into law, to evaluate potential or actual threatening behavior of students to find “facts or evidence that the threat is likely to be carried out.” Read more in the Olympian
