A couple neighborhood town hall meetings on tap for Saturday

The 2014 Legislature will be gaveled into session Monday morning, Jan. 13. Before they’re all-consumed in hiking hills of committee meetings and mastering mountains of floor debate, however, some lawmakers are getting one final report on what’s what –from their constituents. These Democratic lawmakers, for instance, are seeking citizen-input this Saturday, Jan. 11:

Vancouver’s 49th Legislative District trio is hosting a Town Hall Saturday morning from 10 to noon in the Columbia Room of the Vancouver Public Library. The library is located at 901 C St. in downtown Vancouver. Reps. Jim Moeller and Sharon Wylie, and Sen. Annette Cleveland organize their two-hour Town Hall every year on Saturday right before they travel to Olympia the following Monday to kick off session.

Rep. Gerry Pollet, who is one of the lawmakers serving Seattle’s 46th Legislative District, istown halls also hosting a Town Hall from 10 to noon this Saturday morning. Pollet’s meeting will be the year’s first of his “Traveling Town Halls,” and the get-together is planned at the University Burgermaster, which is located at 3040 N.E. 45th Street in the U District (just east of the University Village). Pollet holds these “drop-in office hours” with constituents most every Saturday morning during every legislative session.

As this classic Norman Rockwell drawing from the old Saturday Evening Post illustrates, town hall meetings are a time-honored way for constituents and their elected representatives to interact.  Citizens can always click here to gain access to information about upcoming Town Halls and other events — as well as information on a wide variety of community, legislative, and state-government issues.
